West Kootenays & Boundary

Greenwood - Heritage Charm

Appealing Greenwood, situated between Osoyoos & Grand Forks, charms one with small town living at its best.  A rich history in mining, Greenwood also offers beautiful heritage architecture in its downtown core.  A quick delve into the mining history of the region can be done at the Greenwood Museum & Visitor Center.  The adjacent mining town of Rock Creek shares a similar history, while the nearby border town Midway is a lovely spot rimmed by the meandering Kettle River.

A short hike just outside of town leads you to Boundary Creek & Boundary Waterfalls.  Enjoy the clean air & natural beauty of the area as you march on.  If you’re in town, dip your toe in the flowing Gold River which moves past along the back edge of the city.  If you’ve got a rod & bait, nearby Jewel Lake can satisfy your ambitions.  Downhill skiing is close by at the Phoenix Ski Hill & a little further down the road at Mt. Baldy.

Within the Boundary Region, Greenwood was one of the main mining centres of its day.  It currently has the title as 'Canada's Smallest City' & it was also home to the shooting of the Universal's film, 'Snow Falling On Cedars'.

A great place to learn more about BC’s mining history in West Kootenay & Boundary Country, Greenwood most certainly welcomes visitors with its appealing identity & layout.  If you’re tired of life in the fast lane, Greenwood may be the perfect place for you.
